2013 Audi RS 7

We’ve caught an early glimpse of the 2013 Audi RS 7 completely free of any disguise. The result looks to be one of the sleekest, sexiest and quickest luxury cars on the road today—with the added utility of the A7’s handy hatchback design. Judging from the photos of this test mule, the RS 7 will wear meaty 20-in. “RS” wheels, and feature a sportier chin spoiler with larger air intakes. Quad exhausts are peeking out from under the rear of this RS 7, though they look a bit too small for the bumper cutouts (and are likely pre-production spec).

Heavy Hauling

These edgier design elements add to the appeal of the already gorgeous A7. Even more exciting is what we’re not seeing, at least for the moment. Under the hood, look for a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine that, if what we’re hearing is true, could deliver somewhere in the region of 550 bhp. Consider rivals like the Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon and even the Porsche Panamera as being officially on guard when this upstart hits the streets.

Helping deliver the RS 7s’ power to the pavement is standard Quattro all-wheel drive, a torque-vectoring rear differential and adaptive suspension. Look closely, and you’ll notice the RS 7’s suspension is slightly more hunkered down than the standard A7’s. Tackling tight corners should be just as much fun as opening up that mega motor on the straightaway in this ultimate Audi.

The RS 7 will be unveiled in September, during the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
