Match Preview: Dinamo Zagreb vs. Real Madrid

Real Madrid get their 2011/2012 campaign underway it what will be one of the most difficult environments they’ll come up against, as they travel to Croatia and face Dinamo Zagreb in the Maksimir Stadium. Notorious for its intimidating atmosphere Real Madrid will be up against 12 men effectively as the strong home support will roar their team on in hope of a giant killing act.

Dinamo will take the field without club captain Igor Bišćan, who has just undergone surgery on his ankle. Another defender in the form of Leandro Cufré is also missing with abductor problems which occurred in training this week.

José Mourinho comes into the clash without Kaká, who suffered a bruised heel and didn’t recover in time for the game – his absence could be felt in Mourinho requires support from the substitutes bench. Sami Khedira and Lass Diarra have both returned to the squad though. Long term absentees are Hamit Altintop (back) and Nuri Şahin (knee), both of whom are yet to make their debuts for the club.

FACT: Dinamo Zagreb have won only one of their 10 competitive encounters with Spanish sides, against Villarreal in the Europa League last season.
