Barcelona Vs. Real Madrid Never Lives Up To The Hype - Barca Blaugranes

There is always a lot of hype whenever Barcelona and Real Madrid square off. Normally they are battling for a La Liga title, the Copa del Rey or the UEFA Champions League trophy. Last season they battled for all three, but this week they'll be battling, just not for anything. It's the Spanish Supercup or more accurately, two friendlies with the chance to make money. Even when El Clasico is competed in a couple friendlies it generates plenty of hype though. That's just how it is with this rivalry.

No matter how much hype there is though, it always fall short. The games often turn ugly with fouls left and right. Players are diving and then arguing with the referee. As much fun as the rivalry is, the matches are rarely pretty. Jose A. from the SB Nation Barcelona blog Barca Blaugranes takes a look at why the matches always fall short of the hype and finds that one of the biggest reasons is all of the hype.

Having to win at all cost means anything and everything goes, if you have to injure someone, do it. If you have to cheat, do it. If the fans aren't pleased, they are the loosing teams fans because yours are happy you won. If you win, even in controversy, the victory is all that matters. The tragic part about all this is that it's acceptable because the fans accept it. Ask any Real fan and most won't care how a victory is achieved as long as Barcelona is defeated. To any Barcelona fan, a Real Madrid in the agony of defeat is the sweetest sight. If you ask in Spain for one fan base to say something positive about the other, your asking the wrong crowd.

Nobody is going to call the Supercup massively important, but it will still generate hype. The stands will be buzzing and the two sets of supporters will want nothing more than to come away winners, even if the match doesn't matter. Because of it, odds are we get another ugly match.
