Miley Cyrus: I’m not a ‘good girl gone bad’

ed of apologizing for her image because she is being exactly who she is.

“People see me as this perfect Disney star, and the moment I put out a record that says 'I'm not 11 years old anymore,' people look down on me," she told Joan Jett, her idol, adding, "I'm sick of feeling as if I owe someone an apology for being who I am."

Still, Cyrus still finds herself defending her image. In a new interview with Prestige Magazine, she opened up about the “bad girl” image the media paints her as.

"The press seems to think that I'm trying to make this big turn and become a bad girl, and really I'm trying to be more connected with the Earth,” she says. "I'm a great role model or I'm completely inappropriate for anyone under 13 and I am controversial," she said of her many titles within the media. "There was this magazine article the other day, showing all the younger celebrities. I was the Girl Next Door or whatever, and I fell under the category of Good Girl Gone Bad. And I was like, 'What the hell, man?' "

Cyrus says, she hasn’t gone off the deep end, she’s just trying to be a normal 18-year-old and grow up.

"I'm not some crazy lady who's gone off the deep end, because I definitely haven't," she assures. "I just always try to be real. Every 18-year-old explores sexuality and experiments and tries things. For me there's no reason to change that. You have to be true to yourself."
